Abstract
As organizations strive to become more efficient, data-driven decision-making is key. Process mining has been instrumental in uncovering how processes truly run by extracting insights from event logs. However, its scope is fundamentally tied to past behavior and isolated process views. In this lecture, Prof. Dr. Wil van der Aalst and Angela-Sophia Gebert explore the evolution of Process Mining into Process Intelligence. They will discuss the connection between Process Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence and how to embrace process context for AI. We will hear from them how Process Intelligence leverages object-centric models, integrates data across systems, and provides continuous, actionable insights rather than static analyses. Through real-world examples this session will clarify what Process Intelligence can do that Process Mining simply can’t—and why that matters for the future of business operations.
Prof. Wil van der Aalst
Is a globally renowned computer scientist and a pioneer in the field of process mining. He currently holds the position of full professor at RWTH Aachen University, where he leads the Process and Data Science (PADS) group. In addition to his academic role, he serves as the Chief Scientist at Celonis, a leading company in the area of process mining and execution management. Prof. van der Aalst's research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including information systems, workflow management, Petri nets, process mining, specification languages, and simulation. His work has laid the theoretical and practical foundations for understanding and improving processes based on data. From Object-Centric Process Mining to Process Intelligence Wil’s research often sets the trend for where the field of Process Mining is headed to.
Angela-Sophie Gebert
heads the global education and research programme at Celonis - The Celonis Academic Alliance. Celonis has one of the biggest Academic Alliance programs in the world. With its academic DNA Celonis still drives a lot of its product innovation out of academia and strongly invests into educating the Process Miners of tomorrow. The programme cooperates with 700+ universities worldwide. Angela has given over 300 guest lectures so far and co-published different learning pieces around Process Mining from podcasts to MOOCs.Angela holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics and Economics from the University of Oxford and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich.
